A Little Princess

Sara Crewe is my all time favorite character and what is not to love about her? She is the epitome of a true princess :) Aside from the fact that she is well-dressed and well-mannered, I appreciate that she has a close relationship with her father which makes her a good role model to children and young adults. I used to watch the cartoons series everyday when I was in grade school and until now, it’s still one of my favorite stories.

Anyway, I wanted to download its Filipino film adaptation Sarah, Ang Munting Princesa, but couldn’t find it in torrents. The only available copy is the German version of the movie A Little Princess starring Liesel Matthews as the lead role of Sara. And did you know that Miss Liesel is really a princess in real life? Yes, she is the heiress of the Hyatt Hotel just like Paris Hilton is heiress to whatever hotel is that. LOL.

I am not the kind of person who’d watch a full-length movie more than once. Normally, I’d watch it again but only the parts which entertained me the most. But this particular flick is just so beautiful I have to see it again and again. I was teary-eyed when Sara reunited with her father, Captain Crewe, after three long years of being overworked and half-starved at Miss Minchin’s seminary for girls.

Below is one of the memorable quotes from the movie:

Miss Minchin: Don’t tell me you still fancy yourself a princess? Child, look around you! Or better yet, look in the mirror.
Sara Crewe: I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princesses. All of us. Didn’t your father ever tell you that? Didn’t he?

And the heart never forgets …

Capt. Crewe: Sometimes when I dream, I sense a part of me that’s missing. It’s a strange feeling having your heart remember something your mind cannot.

And don’t you think the girls’ uniform is adorable? I do! I think they look like living dolls in that green little dress :) And look at that drawing in the blackboard? The Eiffel Tower! Haha!

Paris in Summertime

Nothing can be nicer than summer. I just love the warm weather and the countless activities you can do during this time. Although I have never experienced winter, as there is no such thing in the Philippines, I believe that summer is still the best season in the world. That is why I’m going to visit Paris in summertime in the near future even if I’ve read everywhere that the best time to visit France is in the spring, from April to June.

Truth be told, I can’t really go there in the cold months because I don’t have a coat or any other kind of appropriate clothings. Besides, I don’t want to wear anything thick and heavy when I get there. I just want to wear a loose shirt, jeans and a pair of flats because that would make me feel very comfy. Also, I want to wear a nice dress that would show off my slender body ;) I think a pretty dress plus a beautiful warm weather equals a perfect combination to walk around the Parisian streets.

There is a problem though. Airfare and hotel accommodation cost the most in this time of the year. I am currently checking out the price range from the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the round-trip tickets cost as much as 3,500 dollars for two adults – world business class. On the other hand, as expected hotel rooms don’t come cheap too. Chanteloup Hotel charges $83 dollars a night for two.

You must be wondering why I am budgeting for two persons. Well, I figured I can’t go to the City of Lights on my own. Who’s going to take my pictures? I certainly can’t ask other tourists to take photographs of me in every corner of Paris. So, I’m taking my sister with me. And I want the best for the two of us – Air France and Classics Hotel Tour Eiffel.
