A Little Princess

Sara Crewe is my all time favorite character and what is not to love about her? She is the epitome of a true princess :) Aside from the fact that she is well-dressed and well-mannered, I appreciate that she has a close relationship with her father which makes her a good role model to children and young adults. I used to watch the cartoons series everyday when I was in grade school and until now, it’s still one of my favorite stories.

Anyway, I wanted to download its Filipino film adaptation Sarah, Ang Munting Princesa, but couldn’t find it in torrents. The only available copy is the German version of the movie A Little Princess starring Liesel Matthews as the lead role of Sara. And did you know that Miss Liesel is really a princess in real life? Yes, she is the heiress of the Hyatt Hotel just like Paris Hilton is heiress to whatever hotel is that. LOL.

I am not the kind of person who’d watch a full-length movie more than once. Normally, I’d watch it again but only the parts which entertained me the most. But this particular flick is just so beautiful I have to see it again and again. I was teary-eyed when Sara reunited with her father, Captain Crewe, after three long years of being overworked and half-starved at Miss Minchin’s seminary for girls.

Below is one of the memorable quotes from the movie:

Miss Minchin: Don’t tell me you still fancy yourself a princess? Child, look around you! Or better yet, look in the mirror.
Sara Crewe: I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princesses. All of us. Didn’t your father ever tell you that? Didn’t he?

And the heart never forgets …

Capt. Crewe: Sometimes when I dream, I sense a part of me that’s missing. It’s a strange feeling having your heart remember something your mind cannot.

And don’t you think the girls’ uniform is adorable? I do! I think they look like living dolls in that green little dress :) And look at that drawing in the blackboard? The Eiffel Tower! Haha!
