She’s got style: Hilary Duff

First saw her in the comedy movie Cheaper by the Dozen as Lorraine – she’s pretty and so cute. Enough reasons for most people to like her. But for me it’s the fact that she authored a book at a very young age that made her one of my favorite Hollywood actresses. I never had the opportunity to read Duff’s novel. I’m just inspired by individuals who are able to transform their stories into books. So, even if her first book, Elixir, was highly criticized by readers, I believe that she still has lots of time and chances to improve her writing skills :D

Anyway, have you read on Yahoo that she’s now an expectant mother?  Or have you seen her mermaid dress by Vera Wang? Don’t you think she’s like a princess? She probably has everything a girl could ever hope for – just like modern Cinderella.  But these are just the things I know about her. It’s all I ever know. You see, I’m not a super fan. I just like her because she’s been active in charities that help feed children and she’s got a wholesome image. BTW: I loved every single outfit that she wore in the movie Beauty and the Briefcase – classic yet fierce.

Speaking of fashion, do you think it’s okay to wear shiny black leggings these days? I mean, isn’t that a thing of the past?  I am actually planning to buy a pair of leggings because according to my sister-in-law (who knows everything about what’s in and out of fashion), leggings are cool. And it’s not expensive. She’s going to buy me a pair for just 75 pesos. Sound’s cool, huh? But the question remains – Is it okay to wear something shiny on a rainy day? I bought a mini skirt from Wrangler for my birthday and since I’m not that gutsy to wear something that would show off my knees, I will have to wear leggings under the skirt. My only concern is if it really has to be shiny? Because I want to copy Hilary Duff’s style :)

Summer kisses

It’s been raining hard these past few days and all the while, all I can think of is summer. Not that I hate rainy days. It’s just that when it’s raining, it seems that more people are grumpy :) But it’s really amazing how a lot of women still manage to look awesome even if the sun is unfriendly. I have this former schoolmate in college. She’s like a star. She’s got hundreds of friends and thousands of pictures in Facebook. In her latest FB profile picture, she is wearing a white cashmere sweater, black leggings and a pair of black boots. So chick.

Speaking of boots, I have never owned a pair ever. I’ve never considered owning one because guess what? There is no fall season here in Manila. Haha. My reason is shallow. Of course, anyone can wear boots anywhere and anytime. I just have this impression that boots do not spell comfort specially in a tropical country. I prefer flats and slippers because these are wearable even if it’s rainy or sunshiny. I think boots are only fab when worn by other girls but not me. Besides, I have beautiful small feet and friends like to see me wearing heels :D They think it’s sexy.

You know what I don’t like about rainy season? It’s the time of the year when all I want to do is eat and sleep. I’m happy to know that I’ve already earned $1k in Odesk (according to Ms. Vienna) and that should inspire me to work harder. I really really want to do all the tasks assigned to me but for some reason, I’m struggling. I love writing. But I just couldn’t write these past few weeks. The bosses are already complaining for the missed deadlines and I want to save my face. I want to perform better but somehow I couldn’t find the inspiration to write like mad again.

Maybe I should bribe myself. Can you believe that? I have to give my lazy self a bribe just to finish my tasks and duties! So, tomorrow I am going to buy a pair of Havaianas. My mother said it’s not worth the money and I’m also not completely sure if I would like to spend a fortune for a pair of ordinary-looking slippers. Friends said it’s worth it because the rubber is kinda special, something that will not wear out easily. Then my best friend, M, told me it’s not a good value for my money. There are lots of cheaper and prettier footwear in the public market. I don’t know. I’ll let you know once I’ve decided. But for now, I gotta stop wishing for summer and start writing.

She’s got style: Natalie Portman

I instantly liked Natalie when I first saw her in the Star Wars prequel. I love her dresses as Padme Amidala but she’s more fashionable in real life than in her acting roles. Every time I read articles about her in magazines and websites, she’s always wearing something pretty and stylish.

Like that one in the picture. Found it from the web and I couldn’t help but post it here. With that elegant royal blue trench coat, killer heels, and a lovely face, I just gotta love her fashion style :)

The best thing about Natalie is that she’s more than just a pretty face. We all know she’s one hell of a brainy girl having taken a degree from Harvard University. But that’s just not it. She’s a woman of great personality too.

In a magazine that I read, she said something that really made me salute her. Well, according to her, she understands that most women are looking forward to that special day when they can wear a fancy dress and walk down the aisle. But her situation is kinda different because she wears one at least once week and is invited to lots of events so she’s not rushing to get wed.

There is an air of conceit in that statement which I really like. Living in a world where girls around me are mostly lacking of self-confidence is tiring. Natalie is indeed a breath of fresh air to me. She actually inspired me to buy more dresses and wear more skirts to feel  beautiful. Not just once a week but every time I can.

I mean, I am always at home and doing freelance but I still need to feel good about my looks :) Confidence, good vibes, and positive outlook in life are just a few of the things that I should develop. And dressing nice will definitely help a lot.

Innocent lace dresses

So … I’ve always thought that anything made of lace is seductive and foxy and flirtatious and provocative and just utterly … sexy. Forgive my stupidity but I used to think that laces are equal to lingerie, the kind that a woman has to wear during honeymoon to seduce her husband. Well, I came across these lace dresses and for the first time since birth, I want to wear them for Sunday mass. Haha.

Found the sheer dress below from Neiman Marcus online store. Love its feminine silhouette and elegant-looking fabric. Just based on the picture though. I don’t know how it looks like in person but it sure does look luxurious on pics. Love the ribbon, so sweet. Also, very very expensive at $470 :) But for a woman who is passionate about dresses, specially little black dresses, price is nothing. Yow! I wish I could shop like that in the future. To not even ask about the price because no matter how pricey it is, I can afford. Hehe. I don’t like the sandals that the model is wearing. I want a peep toe pump for a more elegant appeal. Goes to show that I don’t know anything about fashion. LOL. But I really think that a pair of black peep toe pump would match the dress better.

This shirt dress, below, reminds me of first communion that’s why I told you these innocent lace dresses could be worn on a Sunday mass. Just remove the nice brown belt and you’re ready to receive your first ostia bread. Not that I intend to insult religion or anything. On the contrary, I firmly believe that girls have to look fashionable when they receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. I researched it and Wiki says that it is a tradition when special clothing is usually worn :) Anyway, this one’s a bit affordable. Just $34.50. But still pricey if converted to local currency. Oh, it’s pretty.

I love dresses. There is nothing like a dress to make me feel more lady-like. Jeans are cool because they allow us to move freely without worrying that the wind might blow our skirt and expose our undies. Hehe. But I still hope that wearing a dress is as common and as ordinary as wearing jeans. Nowadays, it seems that women are more comfortable with pants and shorts. I wish I could wear dresses everyday. Of course I could. That is if I want friends to tease me. So, to compensate my thirst for dresses, I’m going to write about all kinds of dresses in this blog. Bleh!

A dainty dress and a cute pair of flats

I want this Bianca Nero high-neck crochet dress. It’s not just pretty, it’s dainty! Now, if only I had extra $295 for a piece of dress that looks like a cake, I would really buy it :) The lucky girl who can afford this is, indeed, lucky. It’d make her feel like a little princess again.

  • high bateau neckline
  • scoop back
  • ruffled hem
  • fitted through hip
  • back zip

Wear a pair of beige ballerina flats or sling back shoes to complete the look. I know the model in the picture above is wearing wedges but for me, flats would be really nice.

  • metallic colored
  • peep toe to show off your nice pedicure
  • leather lining
  • mini-wedge

  • pricey for $275

That’d be a perfect match. I’m not trying to be a fashion expert in this post, okay. I’m not really into fashion. But I really like dresses and flats because they’re so adorable. They make me feel like a 14-year old girl every time I wear them.
