She’s got style: Hilary Duff

First saw her in the comedy movie Cheaper by the Dozen as Lorraine – she’s pretty and so cute. Enough reasons for most people to like her. But for me it’s the fact that she authored a book at a very young age that made her one of my favorite Hollywood actresses. I never had the opportunity to read Duff’s novel. I’m just inspired by individuals who are able to transform their stories into books. So, even if her first book, Elixir, was highly criticized by readers, I believe that she still has lots of time and chances to improve her writing skills :D

Anyway, have you read on Yahoo that she’s now an expectant mother?  Or have you seen her mermaid dress by Vera Wang? Don’t you think she’s like a princess? She probably has everything a girl could ever hope for – just like modern Cinderella.  But these are just the things I know about her. It’s all I ever know. You see, I’m not a super fan. I just like her because she’s been active in charities that help feed children and she’s got a wholesome image. BTW: I loved every single outfit that she wore in the movie Beauty and the Briefcase – classic yet fierce.

Speaking of fashion, do you think it’s okay to wear shiny black leggings these days? I mean, isn’t that a thing of the past?  I am actually planning to buy a pair of leggings because according to my sister-in-law (who knows everything about what’s in and out of fashion), leggings are cool. And it’s not expensive. She’s going to buy me a pair for just 75 pesos. Sound’s cool, huh? But the question remains – Is it okay to wear something shiny on a rainy day? I bought a mini skirt from Wrangler for my birthday and since I’m not that gutsy to wear something that would show off my knees, I will have to wear leggings under the skirt. My only concern is if it really has to be shiny? Because I want to copy Hilary Duff’s style :)

The dress with a stain

My sister, sister-in-law and I went to a nearby ukay store to shop for cheap clothes and bags. The shop is big and full of wonderful items. I was particularly looking for a dress and they have lots of it. There was a problem though. The dresses are stunning but the prices are kinda disappointing. You see, 280 pesos is not my idea of a “sale.”

I’ve been to other ukay stores before and the most expensive piece that I bought was worth 75 pesos for a Calvin Klein denim skirt. So, when the sales lady told me the price, I didn’t react. Didn’t say anything, didn’t even raise my eyebrow. But at the back of my mind, duh! It’s almost as expensive as the ones I get to see in malls. Are you kidding? I won’t buy that.

Then I saw the dress and it was love at first glance. Light brown. Baby doll. Plain. Simple. With ribbon, buttons and ruffles. I can’t help it, I immediately took the dress and showed it to my sister. I want a second opinion because I think it’s quite overpriced for P280 considering that it’s just ukay. And because she was already at the cashier paying for the t-shirts, I had to speak louder.

Me: Maganda ba? (Looks pretty?)

Sis: May mantsa. (There’s a stain)

Yes. It has a stain on the chest And that was the deciding factor why I didn’t take it. I was already convinced to pay the price thinking it’s branded with high quality fabric, classic design and nice color. But I don’t know if it’s still possible to remove the stain. I also asked my sister-in-law about it and all she said was “it has a stain.” Too bad. It’s really a beautiful dress.

She’s got style: Natalie Portman

I instantly liked Natalie when I first saw her in the Star Wars prequel. I love her dresses as Padme Amidala but she’s more fashionable in real life than in her acting roles. Every time I read articles about her in magazines and websites, she’s always wearing something pretty and stylish.

Like that one in the picture. Found it from the web and I couldn’t help but post it here. With that elegant royal blue trench coat, killer heels, and a lovely face, I just gotta love her fashion style :)

The best thing about Natalie is that she’s more than just a pretty face. We all know she’s one hell of a brainy girl having taken a degree from Harvard University. But that’s just not it. She’s a woman of great personality too.

In a magazine that I read, she said something that really made me salute her. Well, according to her, she understands that most women are looking forward to that special day when they can wear a fancy dress and walk down the aisle. But her situation is kinda different because she wears one at least once week and is invited to lots of events so she’s not rushing to get wed.

There is an air of conceit in that statement which I really like. Living in a world where girls around me are mostly lacking of self-confidence is tiring. Natalie is indeed a breath of fresh air to me. She actually inspired me to buy more dresses and wear more skirts to feel  beautiful. Not just once a week but every time I can.

I mean, I am always at home and doing freelance but I still need to feel good about my looks :) Confidence, good vibes, and positive outlook in life are just a few of the things that I should develop. And dressing nice will definitely help a lot.
